Sending a missionary off on their mission is one of the most meaningful milestones in LDS family life. Finding the right farewell gift — something that honors their commitment and will last a lifetime — can feel overwhelming. Engraved plaques and personalized keepsakes are among the most treasured gifts a missionary can receive, offering a lasting reminder of the love and support waiting for them at home.
Why an Engraved Plaque Makes the Perfect Missionary Farewell Gift
Unlike flowers or gift cards, a custom engraved plaque is a permanent keepsake. Missionaries often display them in their mission apartments, and families proudly hang them at home during the two years their loved one is away. A well-crafted plaque communicates pride, faith, and permanence — values that resonate deeply in LDS culture.
What to Engrave on a Missionary Plaque
The best missionary plaques include a combination of personal and mission-specific details:
- Full name of the missionary
- Mission name (e.g., Called to Serve — Brazil São Paulo South Mission)
- Mission dates (departure and expected return)
- A scripture or quote — popular choices include D&C 4:2 or The worth of souls is great
- Family name or ward for a personal touch
Popular Plaque Styles for Missionaries
At Awards2You, our Missionary Plaques collection features a range of styles suited to this special occasion:
- Mahogany wood plaques — warm, classic, and ideal for displaying at home
- Walnut finish plaques — a rich, dignified look that photographs beautifully
- Acrylic plaques — modern and lightweight, great for mission apartments
Other Thoughtful Farewell Gift Ideas
If you want to pair a plaque with additional gifts, consider a personalized scripture case or journal, a framed mission call letter, a custom name badge holder, or a mission countdown calendar for the family.
How Far in Advance Should You Order?
We recommend ordering your missionary plaque at least 2–3 weeks before the farewell date to allow time for engraving, quality review, and shipping.
